Risk Assessments

If your business has 5 or more employees, according to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment of your premises. Additionally, this assessment must be carried out by a "competent person".

A "competant person" is defined by the British Standards as a person with the relevant training and experience to enable them to carry out the task competently.

Fire Risk Assessments have replaced the old Fire Safety Certificate issued by the Fire Brigade. It is now the Director/Proprietor/Manager's SOLE responsibilty to ensure that their premises are safe. Failure to do so could result in prosecution, and on occasions of severe neglection of fire safety , large fines or even prison sentences.

Fire Risk Assessments are legal documents, and as such, it is incredibly important to ensure that they are carried out correctly. They form a record of your premises fire risks, and your plan to manage these risks so that your staff and property can remain safe in the event of fire.

The Fire Risk Assessment must be in writing and available for inspection at all times.

The Risk Assessment

Tildabeck Ltd offer professional Fire Risk Assessments. The primary objectives are:

  1. To identify the fire hazards.
  2. To reduce the risk of those hazards causing harm to as low as reasonably practicable.

The Fire Risk Assessment will give an overview of the following and provide detailed action plans to implement:

  • Means of evacuation
  • Provision of fire fighting equipment
  • Means of fire detection
  • Fire signage
  • Staff training
  • Maintenance of records
  • Emergency lighting
  • Maintenance and testing of fire safety equipment

Fire Training

Fire Awareness/Fire Warden Training Legislation

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it is also necessary to take appropriate action in order to protect all employees.

This is summarised in the following:

  1. Have procedures in place for fighting fires in the workplace, taking into account any special hazards.
  2. Fire drill training procedures
  3. Evacuation procedures.
  4. Have nominated employees (Fire Wardens) to carry out the above tasks, and take registers of evacuees. This will enable the Fire Brigade to be informed of any unaccounted for staff.

Tildabeck Ltd are able to provide Fire Awareness, Live Fire, Fire Warden and specialist training.
